Independent Arbitrator
Anja sits as an arbitrator on a range of international and regional construction, real estate, corporate and commercial disputes.
Cases
Since 2009, Anja has worked on over thirty international and GCC/MENA arbitration cases. She has sat as Tribunal Chairman, Sole Arbitrator, Party Representative and has acted as Lead Counsel in arbitrations spanning the corporate, commercial, agency, property, real estate and construction sectors - mainly in the UAE and the wider MENA and GCC region.
Selective cases include:
❖ Party nominated and ICC appointed in an ongoing large international construction arbitration under involving jurisdictional challenges and questions of international law.
❖ ICC appointed as Sole Arbitrator in a GCC construction dispute
❖ Party nominated and ADCCAC appointed in a construction arbitration involving a state-owned entity focussing on performance bonds and financial guarantees as well as questions of delay and quantum.
❖ DIAC appointed as Sole Arbitrator in a commercial case involving non-payment for restricted imports.
❖ Jointly nominated as Chairperson in a regional construction dispute between the Employer and Main Contractor in relation to a prestigious development in Dubai, UAE.
❖ DIAC appointed as Co-arbitrator in a real estate case involving construction delay and raising issues of escrow payments.
❖ Jointly nominated as Chairperson by the Co-arbitrators in an international construction dispute between a Claimant incorporated in the UAE and a GCC contractual joint venture..
❖ Co-Arbitrator in a DIFC-LCIA case seated in Dubai, between two Claimants and a leading UAE property developer involving completion issues, force majeure, misrepresentation and handover delays. The Tribunal considered jurisdictional objections relating to public policy under UAE law.
❖ Chairperson in a dispute between branches of two UAE incorporated entities relating to variation orders under the terms of a high value consultancy service agreement.
❖ Co-Arbitrator in a high-value ADCCAC regulated dispute focussing on retentions provisions and performance guarantees requiring expert evidence both for delay and quantum issues.
❖ Co-Arbitrator in a dispute between a UAE contractor and sub-contractor centred on two AED 20m advance and performance guarantees under UAE law with proceedings seated in Dubai under DIAC rules.
❖ Sole Arbitrator in a case brought by the Main Contractor against the Developer of a luxury tourist destination in Dubai under a contract valued in excess of AED 30m.

HoganLovells - City of London
After qualifying as a UK solicitor, Anja worked for over a decade at the leading City law firm HoganLovells specialising in corporate and commercial law.
Al Tamimi - Dubai
On moving to join Al Tamimi in Dubai, Anja practiced corporate and commercial law and also co-founded the well-established family business practice at the firm.
Group and Family Counsel
For the last decade, Anja has been advising a respected local business family as in-house counsel with responsibility for all contentious and non-contentious legal affairs for the family business. She has also garnered extensive arbitration experience acting as an independent arbitrator during that time.
Bolz Arbitration
During her time at Al Tamimi and in her role as general counsel to a large regional family-owned conglomerate, Anja has built up an in-depth knowledge of corporate, litigation, property and family business legal matters through Bolz Arbitration which she founded in 2009.

Anja is admitted to the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP) and is a Chartered Marketer in the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She is also admitted to the Chartered Institute of Linguists as a Translator.

Anja is a German national and is bilingual in English and German. She also speaks French, Dutch and Spanish fluently.
